Every student should experience actual short and soft field landing and takeoffs, has anyone completed there private certificate without actually landing on grass or flown an approach to a runway smaller than 1900x50.

I remember my commercial checkride, the examiner actually had me do a short soft field landing at a near by airport, luckily it was not my first time but the examiner did say the majority of the applicants have never had the real experience.

I don't have my pilot certificate yet, but my instructor said last week while practicing soft field takeoff and landing that we would not actually do any soft field work. We would practice on the paved runway.
