Hello gang,
I am very intersted in learning to fly. I took Gleims online school and already finish, just need to take the written test. The day before yesterday I took my first flight lesson, I was awfully scared, it was windy and the plane was jumpy. Still, I enjoyed it I am planning to obtain my PPL this summer, since I will be off of work, however my cfi said it was a no go, even when I said that I already had ground school and I am available to fly every day for 2-4 hours, during May, June and July. He says that I should only fly 2 hours a week, on separate days, and that I should expect to receive my ppl in at least 4 months. He also said that I should take extra ground lessons with him, before and after each flight session (charging for that the usual cfi hourly rate). He told me so before my first lesson (is this common practice?, even after being done with GS?). I have heard how persons have been able to obtain their ppls in less than a month, and that makes me wonder if I am with the right instructor. he told me that he has only been flying for the past 3 years, so I assume he has not that much teaching experience. He also said that I can only learn early in the morning, and any time around noon is not possible (we live in west Texas, lots of sun and heat). I have gone through several hours of GS, received my medical certificate. I do not want to quit after all this, but I sure feel kind of discouraged.
I would like to read you opinions about my previous lines, and I would love tho receive any advice.
Bill, from El Paso, TX.
