   I had my first lesson yesterday, it was cool, but the air was a bit bumpy and toward the end I was a bit nauseous.  How much time should I give it before I decide that I am going to get sick every time and just hang it up.

   Also, the company has a cessna 172 as well as a new diamond D40 they use for training.  Think 07 Lexus vs. 75 Pinto.  Which should I use?

Hey Nuke...welcome to aviation!

I think I have a physiological defect that prevents me from getting motion sickness. I have never been able to under any circumstances. I mention that only because I can't relate a personal experience about motion sickness. But, since every pilot always has at least one opinion on every issue, here is mine:

Flying in a small plane for the first time is a strange experience. Your body might need a flight or several to get used to it.

Also, I know many pilots who get uncomfortable when things get bumpy. A few of them are professional pilots who fly for a living.

Only you know how uncomfortable you are but if I were you, I would keep going. Flying is the second most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life and I can't imagine giving it up for anything!

Good luck and keep us up to date with how it goes!

How's it going Nuke?

I had a buddy back in the day that would throw-up at least 3 times for every ten hours he flew during his private pilot flight training.  Even after he got his private pilot certificate he would throw-up every once and a while.  Eventually he got over it and last I heard he was flying F16?s for the United States Air Force.   
Give it a couple more hours and you should get used to flying and you won?t get motion sickness as much.  I?ve been flying for over 14 years and still get motion sickness sometimes, well usually when I fly on an empty stomach.
