If you fly once a week I think it will take you about a year or so to get your Private Pilot certificate but its hard to say.  It also depends on how much you study.

You will love it! I can't wait for every flight I have. The book work isn't even that bad. What airport are you doing it at?

Some require twenty hours, other requires forty hours, and yet others, require a minimum of two hundred and fifty hours. The average amount of time it takes a pilot to get their private pilot license is about six months, during which time they acquire all the knowledge and experience, take tests, and fly a lot with their
instructor and alone.

I would suggest you to read lot of manuals, forums and do your self study. There are many online resources like http://www.privatepilotssecrets.com which will give you free e-courses to know all about flying.

More Important is Have fun and enjoy your flying.

Hey everyone.  Thanks for all the help.  I started my flight training last month.  As of today I have 6 hours of flight training.  2 Hrs in a 172 and 4 hrs in a Piper.  I really love flying.  I can’t wait to solo.  How long did it take you to get your landings down right?

I am ready for my flight test, and I still don't think my landings are right - and they never really will be unless I trully fly regularly with experience.

As for time.  it depends on how many hours you can put in (due to work and weather).  I was planning to do my training within 1 year and 65 hours.  Just when it seemed like I would succeed, lousy weather took a turn for the worse, and now its almost a year and a half later with aprox 70 hours or so.  I did my dual long cross country TWICE and lost currency both times.  That's 6 hours lost for nothing.  Now I have to do it for a thrid time, plus my solo, and my flight test.

Am I irritated and pissed?  YOU BET!  Has it affected my drive, commitment, and energy? YOU BET!

SO IN OTHER WORDS - DON'T PLAN ON A TIMEFRAME AND HOURS.
