Does anyone have experience with a deferred medical certificate? I started lessons in April of this year. After years of flight sim experience, I have caught on pretty quickly to flying the real thing. I started practicing landings at 3 hours and was told I was about ready to solo after 8 hours. I figured it was time to get my medical.

I went to a cardiologist last year on the advice of my physician because of a flutter in my chest. After doing a battery of tests, the cardiologist said the flutter was normal. They did discover that my blood pressure went up during the stress test even though my resting BP is fine. I started taking BP meds, but the meds are on the list of FAA approved meds, so that should not prevent me from flying.

Because I saw a cardiologist, the medical was deferred to the FAA for approval. They required more tests this year, which had the same result: my heart is fine, BP is fine, everything is fine. How likely is it that my medical will be denied because I went to see a cardiologist and I'm 50? I have continued taking lessons, but have cut back since I don't want to spend a lot of money and then find out that my medical was denied. The waiting is about to drive me crazy! I went for my medical in July and it's nearly October now!

Just a follow up post. I finally received my medical cert last week. Although it took me nearly 5 months to get it, it has arrived! Now if the weather holds up, I should be able to solo in the next week or so.

Glad to hear you got your medical. I've been through heart related problems and one of the first things I learned is not to work with OK City. It is best to work directly with the Regional Office. Do you still need a special issuance or back to normal medical?
