Greetings.

Flying has been sitting on the back burner for decades.  All that stuff called life & family responsibility got in the way.

I took an assessment of my regrets and decided that this year there will be an opportunity to knock one off the list.

I am 48 y/o with a background in aircraft maintenance.  I figured since I'm pushing 50, I'd better do it or turn bitter dreaming about it.

A couple days ago I became the possessor of a Third Class Medical and Student Pilot Certificate.  While I finish gathering the fundage for the training, I'm planning on getting the King School PPL videos for some advance preparation.

I'm retired USAF living near an AFB, so I'll be doing my training at the Aero Club.

I'll be looking forward to exchanging thoughts & experiences here.

Fly a CT...Faster!

Many "older" people are coming into aviation, and others are returning, thanks in great part to the new (2005) Sport Pilot license.  The reason being: No Third Class Medical is required.  Just your State drivers license.

Many people look upon the Sport Pilot license as the first license in a series of stepping stones.  You can usually get your SP in less than half the time, and cost, of a traditional Private Pilot license.

I was originally planning on Sport Pilot, but since there are no SP instructors/rental LSAa locally I decided to take a shot at the physical.

Sunday afternoon I met a retired General at a friend's hangar.  He said he didn't learn to fly until he was 49, so I replied, "I guess I'm a year ahead of you, then."  Grin

In the future, when the medical needs renewal I'll get an exam from my regular Doc first.  If there is any cause for concern that booger will expire.

How's it going Brohawk?

Your never to old to fly.  Get you private pilot certificate and start buzzing around.  Don't forget to check out “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” coming July 28-August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.
Good Luck!
