Hello,

I am new to this form, and was hoping to get some advice from the experienced pilots out there. I did about 50 hours of training toward my private in the late 90s, but never completed it because I moved. I'd like to get back into it, and noticed that there's a lot of great online resources as a first step. Because I live rather far from the airport, I'd like to do a maximum amount ?virtually.?

Does anyone have recommendations on some of these online schools, together with recommendations for flight Sim packages? There's of course no substitute for actual flying, but this one way to ease back into it.

Thanks,
David

David,
It is great to hear that you are trying to get back into flying. Most of your training will probably come back to you once you are in the air again. If I were you I would be leery about shelling out too much money for ground school. Speaking from experience, a lot of schools like to teach the ground like they do the flight. To give you an example, at our school, we use King Schools ground course, which is very good, but we don't teach it all in advance. Before each flight lesson, you do the ground lesson, which is a CD-Rom, then you do a little one-on-one training, depending on what you need, then you fly. You fly after each ground, that you apply what you just learned. Since you are not close to a flight school, I would suggest contacting some and finding out about an accelerated course. That way you can get it done quickly and in a cost effective manor. But if any one tells you you have to do their entire program, go somewhere else. Sorry for the long post. I hope it helps.
