Quick IFR training
«

I was wondering if there were any suggestions for good quick and not too expensive IFR training out there. I've got about 2 months where I don't have to work coming up and I want to advance as much as I can. I was thinking I might even have time to get my commercial cert as well. My aviation goal is to get my CFI.

You didn't say where you are from, pick a nice weather area to do this. I would look into an accelerated training course to accomplish your stated goals. I went to
www.sunstateaviation.com
for my CFI and really liked it.

I would highly recommend that you not look for a quick IFR training program. The instrument rating is one of the most important ratings, and one that you do not want to do too quickly. Many argue that all you need to learn is how to fly based on indications from your instruments, how to communicate, and how to complete an approach procedure. Those are all necessary, but the most important thing to learn is how to make a good decision in the IFR environment. If you go to Arizona and do a two month program, you will most likely see two months of good weather, and no real world instrument flying. I think it is important to spread the instrument rating out over six months to see a couple of seasons-worth of weather. I would also look for schools where the weather is typically poor. Actual instrument time is so important. Nothing, not a fancy simulator, or a special hood, compare to real world decision making in actual instrument conditions. Don't sell yourself short on this rating. If you have two months with little work to do I would suggest using it on the written exam. This is one of the more difficult written exams, and you want to know everything included in it.
