Hey guys,

I am starting my flight training and I am in the neighborhood for a new headset. Like all student pilots, I am on a budget but I do want a good quality ANR headset. I have no problem spending a lot of money for a good headset if I know it will last at least 5 years.  I have heard good things about the LSP Zulu and the Bose Aviation Headset X. Does anyone have one and where can I find the best deals? Also, does anyone have any info on the LSP Sierra? Thanks for the feedback!!

If you want a good headset then you should get either the Bose headset or the David Clark H10-13.4.  I have 2 pairs of David Clark H10-13.4, one is 14 years old and still works great.

Thanks! I had decided on the Bose Aviation X but then they just came out with the A20 Headset so now I am back to square one. I need to do some more research on it though. I was able to find it at Pilotshop.com tax free and they will send it free overnight. It is the best deal I have found but I need to do some more research on it first. Thanks again for the feedback. I appreciate it!!

Both people I've flown with have had DCs.  I really like them -- and they're fairly reasonable.

I did a review a while back on the bose x vs lightspeed zulu, it might be worth checking out.

I'm going to do a review of other headsets soon too.  The DC are about the best valued headsets.  You'll have them for life.

Great! That was helpful!! Have you heard anything about the Bose A20? I know it just came out but I am curious about ordering one. I would really like to use one or talk to someone who has before I do. Thanks for the information!!

It sounds like you're set on an expensive ANR headset, but you said you are on a budget.  I have 13,000+ hours and have never used an ANR headset (except for flying a plane with them already plugged in).  I've never owned a pair and never will.  A used set of Sigtronics on ebay for $50 is just fine. Cheap DC's are just fine. If you want more noise cancelling, use foam earplugs under the headset.  You'll save $800.  How much flying can you do for $800?
