Flight Academy books 100 Discovery Flights in a minute

Justin Shelley, Director of Sales at US Flight Academy, heard that radio station KLUV in Dallas offered special promotions to listeners for half price. Shelly contacted the producer of the show and agreed to take five of the station's announcers up for Discovery Flights - the first flying lesson leading to a Sport Pilot license. The announcers became enthused and raved about it on the air.

The normal cost for a Discovery Flight, given in a Light Sport Aircraft, is $80. The station talked it up as a bargain at $40 and kept the $40 to pay for the air time, but hyped the concept heavily for several days, directing people to their website at a given time on a specific day. The moment arrived and all 100 offered flights were booked in less than one minute. That set a record for KLUV's program, which has been running for nearly two years. The radio station then listed the US Flight Academy on its website. As a result, an additional 50 flights were booked directly through the Academy.

"Some people may never use their certificates," said Shelley. "On the other hand, indications are that quite a few of those who bought them did so with the support of a spouse or parents, and have every intention of getting their licenses. The feedback we got from the flights we booked through the Academy was very positive."
