Accident occurred Monday, June 18, 2007 in Brinson, GA
Aircraft: Cessna 172, registration: N921JR
Injuries: 2 Uninjured.

This is preliminary information, subject to change, and may contain errors. Any errors in this report will be corrected when the final report has been completed.

On June 18, 2007, at 0845 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 172, N921JR, registered to a private owner, operating as a 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight, collided with terrain while landing at a private airstrip in Brinson, Georgia. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the local flight. The commercial pilot and passenger reported no injuries, and the airplane sustained substantial damage. The flight originated from the private airstrip in Brinson, Georgia, on June 18, 2007, at 0715.

According to the pilot, while on final approach for a downwind landing on a private airstrip, the engine lost power. The pilot over flew the intended landing strip and landed in a corn field. During the landing roll the airplane nosed over inverted. The pilot and passenger escaped without injury. Damage to the airplane consisted of the vertical stabilizer, the left wing and the engine firewall.
