For the second time this year, Elite Simulation Solutions welcomed ten young people from the Orlando Youth Aviation Center for a two-day "Test Pilot School" at Elite's facility in Orlando, Florida.
The young people, all previous EAA Young Eagles, learned about aerodynamics, navigation, weather and the basics of flight. Each "test pilot" spent one hour flying the ELITE RC-1 simulator configured as a Cessna 172 RG, the company's G502 iGATE in its Piper Arrow configuration, the ELITE Jet Transition Trainer and the iGATE beta-test trainer.
The goal of the two-day class was to expose students between the ages of 10 and 17 to various types of aircraft and their individual flying characteristics, and to spark interest in future aviation-related careers.
The Orlando Youth Aviation Center is based at Orlando Executive airport. Through a cooperative agreement with EAA Chapter 74, young people from the area can register for classes ranging through flight planning, aerodynamics, navigation and aircraft mechanics. At the conclusion of each class semester, students who have been flying simulators take to the skies and fly with an experienced pilot on a three-leg cross country trip.
The classes are offered four times a year.
